The City of San Diego's Disabled Services Department hosted the United States Quad Rugby Associations 2001 National Championships and AGM on April 5-8th in San Diego, CA.
The top 16 teams in the country came together for 3-days of intense competition for the chance to take home one of the two available National Titles. This is the second year that the USQRA Nationals have been played in two-divisions. The way it works is that the two top teams from Sectionals advance to Division I, while the teams that finish 3 and 4 go to the Division II National. Since there are four sections in the league we end up with 16 teams advancing on to Nationals - eight in each division. The members really love this format says USQRA President Ed Suhr, plus it has improved the level of play throughout the association. Both of this years National competitions provided lots of thrills and action. When the chair parts finally stopped flying the 2001 USQRA Rugby season came to its end. Congratulations go out to all of this years participants. Results of both National Championships are as follows:
Without sponsors the USQRA could not assist with the many post-season tournaments that take place each year. Our Special Thanks go out to PVA, Coloplast, Elan Pharmaceuticals, Colours in Motion, Eagle Sportschairs, Melrose Wheelchairs, Spinergy and Sportaid. Kudos also go out to all of the tournament hosts and numerous volunteers that help to support Quad Rugby each year.
