Team USA Wins North America Cup

The 2004 North American Cup presented by U.S. Paralympics and Lakeshore Foundation concluded June 23rd with an overall team victory for Team USA in the competition. In finals action, the US Men's Wheelchair Basketball team fell to Australia 65-61, but came back to capture 3rd place with an 83-73 victory over Great Britain. Team Canada was the overall Men's Basketball Champion with a 75 to 64 win over Australia. In Women's Wheelchair Basketball action, Team USA continued to dominate the tournament with a win over the Canadians taking first place in the Women's division. In Tuesday's Wheelchair Rugby final, Team USA took first place honors in the competition by beating Great Britain 41-34. The rugby team departed Birmingham early this morning for Vancouver, British Columbia to compete at the Canada Cup, a seeding event for Athens.

Final North American Cup standings:

Team USA - First place and $5000.00 in performance funds
Team Canada - Second place and $3500.00 in performance funds
"The World" - Third place and $1250.00 in performance funds

Team Canada's Pat Anderson was named the overall Tournament MVP by the athletes and coaches of the 2004 North American Cup. Anderson is a starter on the 2004 Canada Men's Basketball Team and was a member of Canada's 2000 Gold Medal Team at the Sydney Games.
