U.S. tops Canada to take the gold in "murderball"

The final day of wheelchair rugby was golden for the U.S., which beat a hard-driving Canadian team 37-30 to win gold in the sport many athletes once called "murderball."

Earlier, New Zealand won bronze in the aggressive contact sport, defeating Great Britain 46-34.

Rugby is for demonstration only this year, but it will be a medal sport in Sydney in 2000.

U.S. coach Terry Vinyard said the gold-medal game, which was close until the third quarter, should help increase the popularity of the sport.
