Magee Eagles open season with Widener Demonstration
by Dawn Gulick

On October 11, 2005 the Magee Eagles visited Widener University for an exhibition match sponsored by the Widener Institute for Physical Therapy. Widener and the Eagles have developed a solid relationship as
four Eagles volunteers are current or former Widener students.

The Eagles demonstrated why they are a National ranked team but also revealed a significant amount of compassion as they romped the Widener Faculty 44 to 12. Now that may not sound like a compassionate score, but any spectator could have told you it should have been worse, however, the faculty took some bragging rights as the Widener scorekeeper scored five points for each faculty goal.

Widener Students experienced the skills needed to play quad rugby during quarter intermissions as they competed in ball and chair skill competitions. Besides being a very enjoyable evening, the Widener community has enhanced their cultural awareness about disabled sports and the Magee Eagles enhanced their treasury with the $460 raised that evening.

Reports from Widener the next day indicated that the students are buzzing, they really enjoyed the demonstration and the skills challenges. The faculty are buzzing too but more from fatigue & soreness.
