Team USA Heads to Rio

The United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) is sending two teams to Rio de Janeiro this week to compete at the World Wheelchair and Amputee Games. Held from September 16-25, forty-eight countries will compete in nine different sports, including Wheelchair Rugby. In the rugby arena, National squads from the US, South Africa, Canada and newcomers to the sport, Brazil should quickly capture the attention of both the media and local fans.

Team USA Rugby is comprised of 16 athletes, most of whom have little or no international playing experience. US Head Coach, James "Gumbie" Gumbert said that while he expects great things from his players in Rio, the real benefit of these games is seeing how our guys will work together in actual game situations. The World Wheelchair and Amputee Games is just the first step of many that the US will take to help develop its athletes for their programs future.
