Message from the President

June 29, 2006

This message, in addition to our newsletter, is our ongoing report to membership about what is happening at the board level.

The board met on 6/8/06.  This is the off-season, but we need volunteers to help with USQRA committees, mainly the Developmental Committee.  Anyone interested in getting involved contact Tom Hamill (see below).

1. Newsletter. The newsletter turned out well, and its publication was a good job all the way around, especially by Bob Crandall who worked hard on the look and content. We hope you enjoyed it.

We want a name for the Newsletter.  We are going to have a contest starting in the  8/1edition.  We will award the winner a USQRA polo shirt.  So start thinking of some names.

Player Spotlight will also be in every issue.  Coaches and Players:  if you have someone you’d like to see featured, submit an inquiry to Bob Crandall. He will give you the questions to ask.  A photo is also needed.

Ideas, stories, or news: please submit them to Bob or me.

2. Clinics. Jason Reigerand Wendy Gumbert at Blaze Sports set up clinics.  I was amazed at how much Wendy does with scheduling and putting on these clinics.  The board wishes to thank her for all of her work.

3. AGM Minutes.  They are published and online.

4. Developmental Committee.  This committee is still developing and needs committed members to work on things procedure like AGM proposal protocol, grant forms, and ideas to build the league. Tom Hamill is committee chair.

5. Advisory Board.  There has been a huge response to join this committee.  Almost every sponsor is on board as well as others wanting to get involved.  Ed Suhr  is chairman.  After the Canada Cup, we will set our first meeting.

6. Brochure and poster.  Looks like late summer or early fall.

7. North American Wheelchair Rugby Challenge.  At Disney Wide World of Sports, Orlando is set for 11/10 to 11/12/06.  Teams:  Phoenix, BC, Lakeshore, Ontario, Texas, Quebec, Hoveround, Denver.  The tournament is set up to showcase the best rugby in North America and generate mainstream exposure to the sport.

8.  Developmental Grant.  Send application requests to Tom Hamill

9. International.  Lynn Nelson will be our liaison to the international community.  He will also represent the USQRA at the IWRF AGM in Christchurch in September 2006.

10. Team USA. Won both the America Cup and Canada Cup against the world’s best.
      Kudos to all!

The USQRA board will meet again on August 9, 2006. Your input is welcomed.

Join the effort, and let’s keep “Smashing Stereotypes One Hit at a Time.”

Ed Hooper, President
