In 1988, the United States Quad
Rugby Association (USQRA) was formed to help promote and regulate the sport of quad rugby
on both a national, and international level.Since it's
organized inception, the sport has grown from an original four teams to more than
forty-five teams in the United States today! In addition to the growth of the sport in the
US, it has grown internationally as well. It is now played in more than
24 nations.
As a result of Wheelchair Rugby's tremendous growth and popularity,
it was featured as a demonstration sport at the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta Georgia. It
is now recognized as a full medal sport, and will be a regular
competition at all future Paralympics.
